Anyone else watch last night? What a pitiful excuse for a fight. After the first week I didn't think it could get any worse, but it successivly has declined each week. Worst season ever, I'm not watching anymore...

I can't get into UFC. I have tried to watch it several times but seem to like boxing much more.

I'm tired of being disappointed by Kimbo fights so I youtubed some of his street brawls and I must say, the man is a bad mother. He may not be cut out for organized fighting or trying to dig his way out from under the fattest man on the Ultimate Fighter but I wouldn't mess with him in a back yard.

He's got powerful hands, decent striking. If he got some leg kicks, he would be formidable on his feet. However his ground game and takedown defense are non-existant. Watching him train though, he's got good hips and competent movement. I'm pretty certain that with the right training and enough time, he could learn enough ground defense to handle himself with anyone. However, he's 35 which is old for a fighter, much less for someone to begin learning the ground game. I didn't like the EliteXC hype, but he seems to be a good, humble guy. I hope he gets the training he needs and has a decent amount of success.

I'm overall disappointed in this season though; the fighters are terrible and Rampage and Rashad aren't even fighting. What a waste.

I love boxing as well, but I think my wrestling background gives me a greater appreciation of mma. I understand the moves and positions a lot more in mma then I do with boxing (as I've never had a single boxing lesson in my life).

I think that boxing has lost its accessibility to the general populace, while mma is seeing its exponential growth for that very reason. Long before my time, boxing was available to everyone, any equipment was cheap, and you just needed someone else to punch in the face. Now days, I can't even find boxing gyms at which to learn. I think the fundamental reason that boxing is seeing such a decline is that no one anymore boxes and thus has no vested interest in a sport that they do not understand. However, wrestling, karate and martial arts gyms open up the sport of mma to a large audience.

Further, I think the professional boxing organizations are digging their own hole. Their advertising is non-existant, their pay per view is way too expensive, and the fights are rarely held outside of vegas. The fighters fight rarely and no one can keep track of the different belts. I try to keep up with boxing and I can barely name any current champs.

The current mma juggernaut is basically doing everything completely opposite. They fight constantly, have cheap ppv's that are shown in bars, have smaller fights shown on cable tv with promos that run to educate people on the fighters and their backgrounds. The UFC is always trying to expand is market (has anyone seen Chuck Liddell on Danching with the Stars?) and to hold fights at new venues to allow people the opportunity to attend. I bet the majority of the people on the street can name at least a couple of the current ufc champs.

I hope boxing rebounds, and I think it will, but for it to regain popularity, especially in my age bracket, its got to get rid of its current administration, open the sport up, and get new fighters that people can relate to.

Anyone see Marcus Jones' fight? He's a former Tar Heel, won in the first round with an arm bar. First decent fight of the year.

Well, Kimbo's on the card for the UF finale. I think Houston Alexander KO's him, no problem. Alexander is too quick and explosive for Kimbo's age. If anyone's still watching the show, he may have another fight before the finale, but I'm not certain if I can waste 2 hours of my life to find out.
