Off the court, however, Hansbrough prefers to be Joe Student, even when Tar Heels fans write their names in the dust on the windshield of his black pickup truck, bombard him with photograph requests or show up in the middle of the night asking for his autograph. And Hansbrough’s interests, like those of many college students, are continually changing.

“He goes through phases of what he’s really into,” Frasor, one of Hansbrough’s roommates, said.

There was the time that Hansbrough bought a Nintendo Wii and played games like Mario Kart almost nonstop for two months. His most prized possession is currently his iPod Touch, which he uses to listen to Pandora, an Internet radio service.

But Hansbrough’s favorite pastime just may be playing the video game Rock Band. He loves to sing a song by the All-American Rejects called “Move Along,” Frasor said.

“It’s pretty hilarious seeing this big, huge, 6-9 guy trying to sing some of these songs,” Frasor said.

But the reality that those days with his roommates are coming to an end recently hit the normally quick and dry-witted Hansbrough when he asked Frasor, “Man, what I am going to do next year?”
